My Daily Web and SEO Routine to Maintain My Website

Updated on: April 2, 2025

Every day when I get on my computer, I start my web and SEO routine by opening a few essential tabs in my web browser: Semrush, Google Search Console, my website, and my AI tool. This daily habit ensures my site stays optimized, performs well in search rankings, and provides value to my audience. Here’s a detailed breakdown of my daily web and SEO workflow.

Google Search Console: The Foundation of My Web and SEO Routine

My first stop is Google Search Console (GSC), a critical tool for any web and SEO strategy. I start by checking for any errors that might be affecting my site’s performance. Under the Indexing > Pages section, I look for pages that aren’t indexed and investigate why.

Some issues, like redirects from deleted pages, can’t be fixed immediately (except by requesting the removal of the original page, which takes time). However, other issues, such as duplicate content or Google choosing a different canonical than the user, can often be resolved quickly.

I also review pages that are crawled but not indexed. For these, I focus on pages with valuable content that I want to improve. Some pages, like old feeds, images, category pages, and tag pages, seem resistant to being removed by Google, so I evaluate whether they’re worth keeping or if they can be optimized further.

Next, I analyze the Search Results report to identify pages with high impressions but low clicks. For these pages, I update the meta titles, descriptions, and add new CTAs (calls-to-action) to make them more enticing. This helps improve click-through rates and drives more traffic to my site, which is a key part of my web and SEO strategy.

Semrush

After GSC, I move on to Semrush, a powerhouse tool for web and SEO professionals. Using the Keyword Finder tool, I search for new content ideas by identifying keywords with high search volume and low difficulty scores. These “easy wins” help me create content that ranks quickly and drives traffic.

I also use the Questions tool within Semrush to find frequently asked questions related to my target keywords. These FAQs are incorporated into my articles to make them more comprehensive and user-friendly.

In addition to keyword research, I regularly check my site’s health using Semrush’s Site Audit tool. This helps me identify and fix technical SEO issues, such as broken links or slow-loading pages. I also use the Backlink Audit tool to find and disavow toxic backlinks, ensuring my site maintains a clean backlink profile.

AI Tool

With my keyword research and content ideas ready, I start writing my article. I focus on outlining the main points, adding personal stories, and ensuring the content is engaging. Once the draft is complete, I use my AI tool to refine the grammar, expand on ideas, and add a table of contents and schema markup.

The AI tool is also helpful for crafting compelling CTAs, meta titles, and descriptions. However, I always review the AI’s suggestions to ensure the content still sounds like me and is accurate.

This back-and-forth process ensures the final article is polished and optimized for both readers and search engines, which is essential for a strong web and SEO strategy.

WordPress

Once the article is ready, I move over to WordPress. I use the Rank Math plugin to optimize the page for SEO. This plugin ensures I use the target keyword appropriately, include it in titles and image alt text, and add a table of contents. It also provides additional SEO tips to improve the page’s performance.

Before publishing, I preview the article and test the schema markup using two tools: the Schema Markup Testing Tool and the Schema Markup Validator. These tools help me identify and fix any errors in the schema markup, ensuring the page is fully optimized for search engines.

I use both tools because they sometimes give different results and errors, so I’m being extra cautious to ensure everything is perfect.

Once everything is perfect, I either publish the article immediately or schedule it for a later date.

Summary

While I don’t publish an article every day, I go through steps 1 and part of 2 daily. Staying on top of your website’s performance is crucial, as Google is unforgiving when it comes to errors and outdated content. By following this web and SEO routine, I ensure my site remains clean, optimized, and ready to rank.
