At Darkstar Media, we’re excited to share our Open Source Projects — born out of years of appreciation for the open source coding community, which freely gives of their time through code snippets and coding support on sites like Stack Exchange. Because of this, we’re happy to give back and contribute as well.

Open Source Projects: Free WordPress Plugins & Themes

Our open source projects include WordPress plugins, themes, and other code. We are actively building and maintaining projects that solve real problems — from secure file sharing to custom WordPress themes. Other developers are encouraged to contribute and help build them out.

We have a few projects that are works in progress, such as our Custom Primary Category plugin, which we encourage devs to contribute to — but it works as-is if you need it today.

Our custom Darkstar Media WordPress theme will be added soon. We’re currently restructuring it to function as a standalone theme rather than as part of a full Local by Flywheel environment.

Darkstar File Manager: Our First Official WordPress Plugin

Darkstar File Manager lets administrators securely upload and share documents with clients through WordPress — with no direct URL access to files. Clients log in to access only their own files, and admins control exactly where files are stored, including outside the web root for maximum security. It supports two-way file sharing, rate limiting, CSRF protection, bulk delete, and more. It is now available for download directly through the WordPress plugin installer at WordPress.org. Not everything we build is a WordPress plugin. This free browser-based combat calculator was built for players of Historical Board Gaming’s Global War 1936 v4.3 — handling all unit types, modifiers, national abilities, and special rules so you can focus on strategy instead of math. Supports scenario saving and works on any device without installation.
