Why Search Engine Optimize (SEO) your Website?

Frequently when speaking with clients about Search Engine Optimization (SEO), they ask me why it is important. This prompted me to write this short article to help point out some of the top reasons. As I mentioned previously in another article titled  “Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Checklist”, it is my belief that one of the most important reasons is that your website is an investment.  It makes good business sense to have that investment make you money.

The short answer to “Why Search Engine Optimize (SEO) your Website?” is that a search engine optimized website will go to the top of the search results, and this will have the following benefits;

Increased Traffic

I have been reading many studies that suggest that websites on page one of a search engine results page will receive between 33-94% of all clicks. Just think about the edge your competitor will have for even the low range of this statistic if they are on page one while you are not. That is a lot of potentially lost business.

Global Reach

The way to get onto page one is by delivering the content that people are searching for on search engines. Google Ad Words has free tools which will help you see just how many searches occur every month locally, regionally and globally for your search terms. Use these tools to see what you are missing.

Lead Generation and Sales

The more users that visit your website, the more likely you will be contacted for your services. If potential customers do not find you on the first page or two, chances are they may not know your company exists.

Building Trust

When users see your company name over and over again, they will become familiar with you and feel that you are trustworthy. This is simple branding.

I speak to many companies that want to have a website simply because they feel that they need one. They want to build trust by having a website, yet they only want to put the minimal effort into their web design and content. This is a great start, but I would suggest going the extra mile and optimize your website or else your website can end up being wasted money. You have this great marketing tool, why not get the most out of it?
